Fatsomus asked:
Clip from James May's Big Ideas where bunch of hippies burn and melt stuff with their 'solar furnace', oh and it has something to do with making petrol out of thin air.

omg he point the mirrors and it burn a hotdog!

Unfortunately, you'd need a couple million of these parabolic mirrors, and it would only work on sunny days.

You probably dont even need a parabolic shaped mirror base, just use a flat piece of wood with adjustable mirrors on it. Also, I guess that energy can even melt things of higher temp since that liquid metal is probably 50% reflective of the light anyway.

What a shame we can't make steam to run a generator with this rig. If we could we could have pollution free energy for the planet. Oh well what a shame!

How does that prove Mythbusters wrong?
They said it would have been impossible to have a fleet of soldiers holding reflective metal sheets tfocus enough light onto the ship to ignite it.
They weren't testing the myth that the sun produces enough energy to be able to ignite wood.

can gundam 00 be a reality…. it creeps me out when thinking it….

Excellent point, as far as I know nuclear power is used to create steam that turns turbines, why not replace that nuclear action with this sun laser thing? Eco friendly electricity!
