Look up solar solar power supplies, battery charger and solar charger on the Internet.Lots of good information there.
You will need to know how much current you will be drawing, the number of hours you will be using power, the rating of the power supply and the insolation ( this is spelled correctly) from insolation tables on the Internet.

It can not be done. You did say "without spending hundreds or thousands of dollars".
One solar module large enough to power a fan would cost one hundred dollars easy.
Go to this howto page and see what all you need and you will be able to add it up for your self. .
I myself use solar and think it works great. I power a small 5000 BTU A/C unit and other things.
