Hey, Rick. This is really cool. Great job! Aside from the power your system generates, I think a project like this is great just for the learning you can get out of it. Looking forward to seeing the upgrade video you mentioned….Michael.

dude sorry to be the one to tell you this but you not really doing anything until you get a real power inverter that produces 110 volts ac , and the deep cycle marine batteries plus to keep them charged continuouly you need 14 of the 15 watt panels . How do i know this hahah Cox im already using my own system and it works powering tv , dvd player etc even on cloudy days .

Can't wait to see it. I'll bet you like that new charge controller a lot better. Those kits are a great starting place but not a lot of growth potential. Yeah those CFL's are great. Almost every bulb in my house is a FL, CFL, or LED. Just that alone knocked about $12.00 a month of the electric bill.

Hey Gator,
I need to do an upgrade video badly.
Since what you have seen I have 2, 6 volt golf cart batteries, An Antrax 30 amp controller & 2 ,20 watt CFL bulbs that are as bright as 80 watt bulbs…It is wayyyy better. Later.. Rick.

My message was in response to someone else's post but didn't append as suspected. I was just saying the stored energy isn't the same as the energy being captured by the panels. You can use draw more than 45 watts with your 12v lighting and utilities

I think we should have been doing all this sort of stuff 30 years ago!!!
Groing up we had a solar hot water system in southern California at our house.

Very cool.
More people should be made aware of the simple alternatives such as solar panels for electricity, solar plumbing for heating water and solar light through skylights. I'm seeing more and more of this in Northern California.
