Info Sponge asked:

Hi there,
I'm trying to get a very basic understanding of solar power.

Can you tell me:
How many watts is required to run a laptop off power
And how many, roughly, to charge the laptop battery
how many for an mp3 player
a cell phone: simple -> smart range
a table lamp
a ceiling fan
a floor fan
a window a/c

Just want to get a feel for it!

Thank you in advance!

sounds like you need to use ohms law wats =amps x volts or volts = amps X resistance if you are still having trouble you can always call the manufacture and ask

The only item which will consume any large amount of power will be the air conditioner.

Your laptop is likely to be about 50 watts – they vary – the cell phone almost nothing.

Table lamp – look at the watt rating on the bulb. An LED will be the lowest, but most expensive, but still worth it.

Ceiling and floor fans are low, we have a 60" ceiling fan here which uses less than a 13 watt CFL on the lowest speed.

The air conditioner could be 1,000 watts or more. That's an energy hog.
