Large wind turbines DO kill birds. They find dead birds near them that have obviously been killed by the blades.

Environmentalists oppose hydro electric power because it kills fish and changes river habitat by making a lake where a free flowing river once as.

Environmentalists oppose everything in one way or another, if they are extreme enough.

What are your facts? I have not heard of any environmentalist blocking wind power. I have heard that some birds do die because of the blades, they are very big blades and they can move fast, but I believe there are new solutions to those problems now. Real environmentalists want green power.

They don't believe in global warming.

Some people don't like the appearance. Some are "brain dead" according to their acquiantances. Read the second thread about a wind turbine park going up in southern California.

You aren't that sharp

because the "enviromentalists" as you so charitably call them aren't about environmentalism.

if they were, i'd be with them on a lot of stuff.
i like clean water. and air, etc.

They, however are about making America a third world country, if you just look at their actions, through THAT spectrum, everything they do suddenly makes sense.

Follow the money. If you will look, I would bet you will find the areas where environmentalists don't want windmills are in the same area where 1) they live, or 2) where their larger contributors live.

This is the same thing with most liberal and/or leftists movements. These people are expert at making excuses that will fit their agenda at the moment. If the facts don't fit, change the facts, or ignore them. If they are wrong, they hide the truth, or just plain lie, with the help of a willing media.

The supporters are all for telling the rest of us what to do and how to live, but then live by the motto, "Not in my backyard". These same people who say we need to do this or that to conserve, won't do these things themselves. Then, these same people wonder why Conservatives criticize them.

The Democrats will block anything that might give us a partial solution. They are always against any change.

Some environmentalists can be extreme enough where none of our solutions work in their minds. I have heard about these types of arguments, with the birds, but eventually it will have to be a compromise. You have to look at both the positives and the negatives, and a few only focus on the negatives.

We have to face it: there is no perfect solution. Most people recognize that in one way or another, something is going to have to be harmed. Wind power is clean, and its benefits outweigh its damages, in my opinion. Unfortunately, the most vocal on the issue are the environmentalists opposing anything and everything, which puts on a bad face for those who are reasonable enough to accept that it's the best solution we currently have, and better than just building another coal plant. Most environmentalists would agree.

The ones blocking solar power in the desert, well, are probably even more extreme. There is little impact on the environment, especially since a low number of organisms live there, compared to a grassland or such. Again, there has to be a compromise, and they have to realize that they land will probably be developed someday anyways: do they want a subdivision or a solar farm in the desert?

I think Hypocrisy is the word we're looking for.

They definately kill birds. They move slow enough that they birds don't see a blur and try to fly through. Then they get nailed from above or below.

The enviromentalists here were all up in arms because of birds killed by an oil slick. The number was less than the birds killed anualy by windmill in our province.

Your premise lacks credibility. I am an
environmentalist and I know lots of environmentalists, and we all think wind power
is one of the next generation answers to
alternative energy.
Please be more explicit on who you call
an environmentalist. We are not just the people you don't like, we are people that
are trying hard to save planet earth so that
your children and grand-children will have
air to breath and food to eat, and a decent
life to live. We CARE about the environment.
