How large of a building can one average sized wind turbine power? I don't know what all of the energy vocab means. Is it closer to a small house or apartment or more like a whole school?

A single wind turbine (1.5 MW, GE) would provide enough power to power a town (about 400 homes, or 2 large industrial businesses.) A single wind turbine would power about 20 schools.
Providing there is sufficient wind, some of the modern day turbines can easily power 500+ homes. The problem is that today everyone is buying more and more electrical equipment for their homes, some of which eats up a lot of electricity.
A big turbine could power well over 1,000 small homes with conservative users, it all depends on how much power any given household uses.
As for schools, I really don't know. But I am glad to see that many schools are installing solar panels on the school roofs. It has a double purpose, first it educates the kids as to what solar power can do, and I believe that is the most important aspect. Yes, it reduces the school's electricity bill, which is a benefit to the taxpayer!
